Well, first of all, let's start by getting clear on what we mean by "artist." We're not talking about the guy who paints pictures on his garage door or the girl who paints on her fingernails—we mean people who create things for a living. Let's take a look at some examples: A chef can be an artist if he or she creates food instead of just eating it. A musician could be considered an artist if he plays an instrument or writes songs instead of just singing them.
A writer could be considered an artist if she pens stories instead of just telling them. And so forth! Now that we've established what it means for someone to be an artist, let's look at how they can become more engaged in their work through practice and practice alone:
