"I was a marathon hero but now I have failed" /New chapter /Sunday on EBS/
In a situation where the practice of using digital technology for peace and building is weak, the harm of false and hate speech spread through social media is great.
The impact of this dangerous information is especially high in urban and suburban areas.
With this in mind, a training of trainers (TOT) focused on digital peacebuilding and basic media skills were held in Semera city of Afar region for 4 days from January 13.
20 young people participated in the training, and trainees from 4 districts of the region (Amibara, Afanbo, Kafra, Gwane) were given training on improving digital media skills, doing peace-building activities, and protecting themselves and the community from false and hate speech in order to minimize the damage caused by it.
Next, it is planned to enable the young people to return to their communities and provide the same training to their peers based on the training they have received, so that they can create a positive impact in their area.
Especially for areas where access to information is limited for various reasons, peer training not only brings meaningful change but also facilitates the implementation of solutions that involve the youth.
Tikvah Ethiopia is conducting this training together with Mercy Corps Ethiopia.
In the future, similar pieces of training will be provided in Dredwana and Jijiga cities.
